When I entered education 24 years ago, school and district leaders were talking about the need to develop stronger relationships with students. The mantra back in those days was “students don’t care what you know until they know that you care.” Twenty-four years later that priority is still the priority, yet so little training goes beyond theory, feel-good stories, or generalities. Ours training is different.
With a focus on Restorative Practices, we have synthesized ideas from some of the greats in the field of education: Douglas Fisher, Nancy Frey, Harry Wong, Fred Jones, and others to bring you actionable steps you can implement with your students immediately. You will always walk away equipped with strategies and a plan for implementing these ideas with students tomorrow. And when you do, you’ll sense the change in your classroom. Students will be more willing to talk to you, more conflicts will be resolved peacefully and equitably, and you will feel great knowing that you aren’t just teaching students, you are leading them.
In this training have sessions which focus on the following topics.
- Community Building Circles
- Using Community Circles for Problem Solving
- Classroom Procedures that Support Restorative Practices
- Rules and How to Use them Restoratively
- Putting Everything Together
Each session will feature time to make your plan, receive feedback and coaching from me, and reflect on what you previously implemented. My hope is that you will feel equipped, supported, and confident when you take on this important work.
This training can be done with teams of teachers at any level, elementary, middle, and high school.
